The 2011 Klondike was held at Camp Hohn in Laurie, Missouri the weekend of January 14, 2011.  Troop 52 took 12 scouts (Jordan Asher, Isaac Bentley, Kenny Finley, Iain and Grant Gould, Cameron Hawkins, Daniel Loftin, Nicolas Moser, Caleb Murray, Sam Patterson, Matthew Pettus and Austin Renwick) to participate in the event.  Mr. Tod Moser, Mr. J.R. Smith, and Mr. Tim Pettus were the adult leaders for our troop.

We arrived at the camp around 7:30 Friday evening and began setting up camp at the Iroquois campsite.  On Saturday morning we awoke at 6:30 a.m. and began preparing for the day’s competitive events.

After breakfast, we loaded and tested our sled then went to the Parade Field for the opening ceremonies and sled races.  Our troop came in second place in the first round and first in the second round to finish second overall.

Other events we participated in included fire-building, geo-caching, and favorites of all, the tomahawk and black powder competitions.  After the day’s events, Nicolas Moser, Isaac Bentley, and Caleb Murray entered the Dutch Oven cooking competition and claimed first prize overall – the Golden Spoon Award.

After breaking camp and finishing up the Dutch Oven meal of Cowboy Stew, we loaded up the trailer and headed home.
